In the average home, the TV is on 7 hours a day. The National Television Violence Study (1998) concluded that TV increases the risk of learned aggression. Teens who watch television are more likely to drink, have premarital sex and be obese than children who watch less than two hours of TV a day. Research shows that most juvenile crime is committed between the hours of 3 PM and 8 PM. The National Institute for out of School Time found that children attending after school programs had better peer relations, emotional adjustment, conflict resolution skills, grades and conduct in school compared to those not attending after school programs. Providing positive, healthy, structured activities to students during after school hours will reduce negative outcomes for participating students.
